Washed Out is the stage name of the American chillwave musician Ernest Greene (born in 1983, Perry, Georgia).

In June 2009, Greene graduated with a Master of Library and Information Science degree from the University of South Carolina and was unable to find a job as a librarian. Greene moved back home to the rural town of Perry, Georgia and started producing songs in his bedroom studio.[1] He soon won the favor of a number of influential music bloggers after they found his music on his MySpace page.[2] His style has been identified with the Chillwave movement.[3] He has identified hip hop as influencing the way he writes songs.[4] The first two Washed Out EPs were released in August and September 2009. Washed Out made his debut New York City performance (his second live show ever) at Santos Party House. He has since performed at the 2010 Pitchfork Music Festival[5] and his song “Feel it All Around” is featured in the opening sequence of the TV series Portlandia.

In April 2011 it was announced that he had been signed to Sub Pop Records. His debut album, Within and Without, was released on 11 July 2011. The album peaked twenty-six on the U.S. Billboard 200 and eighty-nine on the UK Albums Chart.

Album Review

Although Washed Out brings nothing new to the table, it’s still Chillwave in it’s purest form: A recycled version of 80s synthpop music. While some would assume that it’s a bad trait, they couldn’t be farther than the truth. The almost incomprehensable vocals don’t matter, infact they add to the “Summer Daze” effect. One thing is for sure, these songs strike a nostalgic sense of relaxation. This is not the kind of music you’d listen to intently, instead it is the kind of music you’d drive over to the Dead Sea with. Light a spliff, lay back and enjoy the easy sounds.

Explosions In The Sky: Take Care, Take Care, Take Care

Take Care, Take Care, Take Care

Artist info

Quoted Directly from Wikipedia:

Explosions in the Sky is an American post-rock band from Texas. The band has garnered popularity beyond the post-rock scene for their elaborately developed guitar work, narratively styled instrumentals, what they refer to as “cathartic mini-symphonies,” and their enthusiastic and emotional live shows.[1] They primarily play with three electric guitars and a drum kit, although band member Michael James will at times exchange his electric guitar for a bass guitar.[2]

They garnered a small amount of media attention with their second album, Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Live Forever, due to rumors linking it to the September 11, 2001 attacks. The band denied any connection in interviews. The album art shows an airplane with the caption “This plane will crash tomorrow.” There were false reports that the last track was called “This Plane Will Crash Tomorrow” and that the album was released on September 10, 2001;[7][8] the concept had actually originated in 2000, and the album was released on August 27, 2001. Bassist Michael James was detained in an airport as a threat to security, and had to explain why his guitar contained the words “this plane will crash tomorrow”.[3]
